Tiny But Mighty

Outside our door there is royalty in abundance. Beetles so beautiful they shine like gold. In the same moment that I admire their beauty I am struck by their destruction. Piling high and nestling in my roses they fill themselves and procreate to their hearts’ content, gnawing away at the sweet buds. Bees float in and out of flowers, take naps and at times make a noisy buzz or dart in my direction, letting me know that it is I who is the intruder. Though I have tended to this space it is they who own it. My tiny jars are an homage to them. Preserving the moments forever. Tiny little emperors and empresses of the universe.
